In my 2D art I have begun to recreate my drawings from my A3 work sheet. I have used shading techniques to make the edges look not as sharp as they did during the colouring. This has made the drawings much more nicer and appealing to the eye, as before the drawings looked blocky, sharp and plastic.
I am trying to currently create a running animation for MegaM as it will allow me to work on my animation skills in pixel art. This is something new to me and it will be a first by animating in pixelated form.Doing the pixel drawings has put me out of my comfort zone as I am used to doing traditional drawings with actual features and body. Both of my pixelated drawings are going to be used in my recreation of space invaders were everything is re-skinned as different characters.
I have began to create enemies for my game that have similar but unique looks. I have learnt that the enemies should have different traits. For example: One might move quicker than the other or have more health. This would make them much more difficult to kill. Another thing could be that the next line of enemies can only be destroyed when the lower line of aliens has been destroyed. This will make the game harder, the different speeds of enemies will also do this.
I have began on MegaM's animation with the sprite. The animation has 4 frames that each have to be drawn and coloured separately to fit my character I have created. I have looked up reference images to help me with the process.
Since creating my characters my techniques have changed significantly to fit with the game genre. For example, creating the group project game made me change my technique which was creating pixel art which looked bright to using dark colours to fit with the scheme of the game. The sizes and way the art is drawn is different from my own style.
Some of the techniques I used were: using darker colours (shades and mixes of dark colours), doing sprites of different sizes. Doing different types of drawings has helped me improve in creating characters and sprites.
